VACANCY FOR POST OF RECTOR AT FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of RECTOR of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri, which will become vacant in June 2010.THE INSTITUTIONEstablished in 1978 as the College of Technology, Owerri, changed to the Polytechnic Nekede, in 1987, further renamed Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri by the Federal Polytechnics (Amendment) Decree No.5 of 19Q3.Its programmes are duly accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).Whereas its Mission Statement is "To be pace setter in demand-driven technology", its Vision Statement is 'To nurture and sustain the culture of best practices in reaching/learning methods, research/demonstration, skills and technological innovations in order to produce job creators for the global economy.THE RECTORThe Rector is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Accounting Officer of the Polytechnic. He has power to exercise general authority over both staff and students, responsible for discipline in the Polytechnic, subject to general control of the Governing Council. In addition to proven management and leadership experience, the candidate must have a demonstrable pa*sion for academic endeavour and be credible to the Polytechnic.QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONSThe candidate for the post is expected to possess the following academic qualifications and personal qualities:• Must have a Masters or a Doctorate Degree in any of the disciplines offered in the Polytechnic with a minimum of (15) years of professional and academic experience; at least five of which must have been gained in an institution of comparable status.• Must be a Chief lecturer with not less than five (5) years experience on that cadre.• Must demonstrate evidence of strong academic, administrative and visionary leadership.• Must provide evidence of membership of a reputable professional body in Nigeria.• Must provide evidence of scholarly publications in reputable journals as well as presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars/workshops.• Must be able to attract research grants and development facilities to the Polytechnic.• Must be a person with initiative and vision for sustaining the accelerated pace of development of the Polytechnic even under financial and other constraints.• Must be a fair-minded and dynamic individual with impeccable reputation.• Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health (with evidence from a government hospital).• Must be proficient in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).TERMS OF APPOINTMENT AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE• The appointment is for a term of four {4) years in first instance and renewable, subject to satisfactory performance, for another term of four (4) years and no more.• The salary is consolidated and appointee shall enjoy other benefits of the office as may be approved from time to time by the Federal Government.METHOD OF APPLICATIONApplicants are to attach to the applications twenty (20) typewritten copies of their Curriculum vitae, giving the details in the following order.• Full Name with surname under lined• Date and place of birth• State of origin/Local Government• Nationality and how acquired• Marital status• Numbers and ages of children• Current postal address including telephone number and e-mail• Educational institutions attended with date• Academic/Professional qualifications obtained with dates• Membership of Professional Bodies/a*sociations• Academic/Scholarly publications (in standard format)• Previous Employer(s) and Post(s) held with dates• Present Employment including status and salary• A statement of his/her own Vision for the Polytechnic in 21st centuries (20 copies)• Other activities outside current employment• Names and address of three (3) Referees (Employer, Educational and Personal) who are to forward confidential report on them directly to the Registrar/Secretary to Council, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Owerri.
